The British Ceramics Biennial is an international festival staged in Stoke-on-Trent, a Staffordshire city famed for its pottery. Once every two years, the area’s rich heritage as the home of British ceramics is showcased in the post-industrial setting of an original Spode factory, as well as other venues across the city. The event was launched in 2009 by Barney Hare Duke to display artworks from the UK’s leading ceramicists alongside their international counterparts.

An extensive programme of exhibitions, site-specific installations, events and activities are held across the city, providing a wealth of opportunities to the craft enthusiast. Visitors can expect works from over 300 artists, including the likes of Neil Brownsword, Helen Felcey, Stephanie Buttle, Ingrid Murphy, Irina Razumovskaya and Hannah Boulton. Beyond the reach of the festival, the British Ceramics Biennial has an ongoing, year round commitment to making a cultural and social impact in Stoke-on-Trent. Collaborating with the community and health organisations, the Biennial creates opportunities for people to explore how creativity and clay work best for them.
