Curved furniture

John Makepeace founded his workshop already in 1963 and his associate, Mr Clive Baines, joined in 1985. They both take pleasure from uncompromising standards of fine craftsmanship. John Makepeace directed Parnham College for 25 years alongside his own studio with ten craftsmen and craftswomen. He was responsible for the design and construction of a new woodland campus at Hooke Park. Both John and Clive are open to share their sources of inspiration. They say they are hidden in imagination, rejection of irrelevant convention, architecture, art, material science and technology.

Flow Chest

The Flow Chest of ten drawers is made of four woods, each for their best properties: grain, colour, density and scent. The grain of the ash runs horizontally, matching at each of the four corners. The sculpting creates recesses for the handles.

Knot Chair

This Knot chair has laminated oak legs and arms and a burr elm seat, back and knots, washed like driftwood. The sculpting of the cushions demonstrates that comfort derives from the profiles rather than the softness of surfaces.

English oak with burr elm

Designed to encourage animated conversations, this large table complements gourmet dining. In this innovative structure, the three cast bronze legs are joined by a central spine, and bronze veins define the individual place-setting.

Radiant Desk

Radiant, an active desk with swivelling drawers and keyboard platform, and a tilting writing surface concluding in a leg cnc-carved in concentric perforating waves.

Scorched Embrace Settle

This compact settle has a laminated seat, the sculpting emphasising its layered structure of scorched English oak laid in alternate directions. In the back, the sculpting provides excellent lumbar support. The scorching emphasises the grain.
